초록 Stress relief is used as the driving force for self-assembly of the random wrinkles generated by buckling into ordered structures. This physical self-assembly occurs when the wrinkle formation is guided by a periodic pattern on an elastomeric mold that is simply placed on the surface of a bilayer of metal on polymer, which is then heated above the glass transition temperature of the polymer. The period of the assembled structure conforms to the pattern period. The relative magnitude of the pattern period with respect to the intrinsic buckling wavelength determines whether the resulting surface is sinusoidal or non-sinusoidal. A relationship is derived for the intrinsic wavelength, which describes well the experimental wavelength without involving any adjustable parameters.
