제목 Preparation of PMMA/liquid crystal microcapsules for color PDLC
초록 PDLC(polymer-dispersed liquid crystal) has been investigated and developed by researchers since 1985. Recently, there are two main fabrication methods for PDLC: the phase separation method and the microencapsulation method. In this study, we prepared color PDLC by microencapsulation method for improving contrast ratio (C/R) and optical properties. For color PDLCs, dichroic dyes are incorporated in the PDLC formulation. In the case of phase separation method, however, dichroic dyes exist not only in the LC domain but also in the polymer matrix, which does not respond to the electric field deteorating the contrast ratio(C/R) of the resulting PDLC devices. In this presentation, microencapsulation method is appied to prepare color PDLC, where dichroic dye is encapsulated in the PMMA microparticles with liquid crystals, The characterizations of dye-containing LC microparticles will be presented.
