제목 Effect of epoxy on the morpholohy and properties of PET/PA6 blends
초록 Poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET) and Polyamide-6(PA6) are both semicrystalline polymers with commercial significance, but blends of PET and PA6 have been of minor importance due to the thermodynamic imcompatibility. In this study, the effect of an epoxy (unmodified Bisphenol-A type) was investigated as a reactive compatibilizer for the incompatible polymer blends of PET and PA6. The mixture of PET and PA6 with epoxy were melt compounded using twin extruder. The effect of epoxy on phase separation, thermal properties, melt viscosity, thermomechanical properties and reaction between epoxy and end groups of PET or PA6, were characterized using SEM, DSC, melt flow indexer and DMA, FT-IR respectively. It was found that epoxy plays as a compatibilizer role in the blend by controlling phase separation and increasing adhesion between the two components.
