제목 Catalase-immobilized syringes to create oxygenated hydrogels for boosting wound healing
초록 The emerging trend in designing polymeric hydrogels is to create a bioactive matrix stimulating the native tissues by physicochemical and biological stimuli. Among these factors, hyperoxia (over 21% pO2) has been demonstrated to facilitate wound healing via acute oxidative stress. While various peroxides with catalase have been used as oxygen (O2)-generating agents, it is still challenging to improve their cytotoxicity caused by excessive oxidative stress or cellular signaling suppression. Herein, we develop a catalase-immobilized syringe (Oxyringe) to create cytocompatible and oxygenated hydrogels. The hydrogels released O2 up to hyperoxic levels (47.9 % pO2) in vivo. We found that the hydrogels boosted initial macrophage recruitment, cell proliferation, and neovascularization, which are related to wound healing. In conclusion, Oxyringe has great potential as an advanced O2-supplying platform to generate O2-delivering biomaterials for improved wound healing and tissue regeneration.
