제목 Polystyrene-Based Cation Exchange Membranes with Different Contents of Divinylbenzene
초록 Commercial polystyrene-based ion exchange membranes are simple and easy to manufacture. However, they have a disadvantage like poor durability due to their brittleness. In other to solve the problem, we tried to adjust the brittleness of the membrane by controlling the degree of crosslinking with divinylbenzene. For the preparation of the cation exchange membranes, a PE mesh possessing excellent mechanical strength and chemical resistance was used as a substrate. A monomer solution containing initiator was poured into the substrate and thermally polymerized and crosslinked. The prepared membranes were then subsequently post-sulfonated using sulfuric acid. The cation exchange membranes were evaluated through ion exchange capacity(IEC), electric resistance(ER), and water uptake(WU).
