||Polyimides (PIs) are already widely used in aerospace, electronics, and other high-tech areas based on their excellent mix of properties. Expectations are that colorless polyimides will rapidly take hold and that their use will encompass what we now consider to be futuristic applications. The trick is to come up with the right combination of building blocks, creating a recipe where the formulations are not only developed, but are balanced and optimized. Bearing the aforementioned perspective in mind, in this work, a series of novel monomers with different chemical backbone structure/building blocks, and their PIs were synthesized and the properties were studied in detail especially in terms of charge transfer complex, absorption of light and color development by electron transfer, and refractive index characterization. Also, the correlation of optical properties and physical properties by effect of chemical structure was systematically investigated.
