||For the fabrication of oriented thin film polarizer (TFP), perylene diimide derivative material (PDDM) was newly synthesized. The liquid crystal (LC) and phase behaviour of PDDM were investigated using microscopic and spectroscopic analyses. Based on results of optical microscopy and X-ray diffraction, it was realized that disc-shaped PDDM formed the face to face intermolecular interaction induced by phase separation between ionic and aromatic groups. The oriented and patterned film was fabricated by photopolymerization and mechanical shearing of PDDM H2O solution on the polymer substrate glass. Through UV-vis spectroscopy, it was confirmed that the polarizability of PDDM TFP was 99%. Flexible and patterned PDDM TFP will be beneficial for TFP field.
