제목 Tethered lipid bilayer based systems for the localized release of nitric oxide to promote endothelialization
초록 Nitric oxide (NO) has been studied extensively in recent years due to its unique pleiotropic nature and importance in maintaining a healthy vasculature. At high concentrations NO inhibits the growth of cells, such as smooth muscle cells. In contrast, at low concentrations it promotes growth of cells, such as endothelial cells. NO’s very short half-life makes it very difficult to use in local sustained release systems, thus the use of phospholipid bio-interfaces to control NO release could be a solution. Liposomes and tethered lipid bilayers have been used to control three types of NO donors or generators (hydrophillic, hydrophobic and NO generating catalyst). NO release profiles unveiled controlled release of NO over 1 week. In addition, in vitro and in vivo studies showed successful promotion of endothelialization as well as limited growth of smooth muscle cells.
