제목 Enhanced catalytic activity of edge exposed 1T-WS2/WO3 nanohelix for efficient water splitting
초록 Control of the material morphology and phase in 2-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) has been a challenging issue for their application of efficient catalytic electrodes for hydrogen evolution reaction. In this work, we present the new hierarchical catalytic electrode having (i) the exposed edge sites as well as (ii) the 1T phase of WS2, both of which are the well-known strategy to improve catalytic performance. The reduced WO3 nanohelixes (NHs) after pre-annealing in H2 atmosphere is found to enable the preferential formation of a rich edge-exposed morphology of WS2 during sulfurization. In addition, the desired metallic 1T phase WS2 is facilitated on the curved WO3 NH surface owing to the strain induced by the differences in lattice constant and thermal expansion coefficient between the two materials. The resulting hybrid electrode demonstrates excellent catalytic activity and charge transfer properties for hydrogen evolution reaction in water splitting.
