||In the present decade, many studies to reduce CO2 and VOCs emissions have been carried out in various fields by the strengthening of global environmental policies and the increasing interest in eco-friendly materials. Isosorbide(ISB) is one of the bio-based materials originated by corn. ISB has been mainly prepared by dehydration of sorbitol under the acid catalyst such as sulfuric acid. It has been widely investigated to replace petroleum-based materials in the point of reducing CO2 emission and fossil resources usage. ISB has realized various merits when applied as a monomer of the polymer. Firstly, it was reported that optical properties are improved when it is substituted as monomer of polycarbonate instead of Bisphenol-A. When applied to PET, the thermal properties such as Tg was improved comparing with the conventional one. In this presentation, we introduced the preparation of environmentally friendly biomaterial ISB and its applications in the field of polymer.
