제목 Preparation and Characterization of HIPS/MMT Nanocomposites.
초록 Nanocomposite technologies have been described as the next frontier of material science. Polymer/MMT nanocomposites give improved mechanical and thermal properties and flame retardancy in spite of the introduction of a small amount of MMT to polymers.
In this study, HIPS(High impact polystyrene)/montmorillonite(MMT) nanocomposites were prepared by melt mixing method using an internal mixer with various contents of HIPS, MMT and compatibilizer. MMT modified by dimethyl hydrogenated tallow 2-ethylhexyl ammonium was used. Styrenic copolymers with maleic anhydride group were used as compatibilizers. The degree of dispersion of MMT in the nanocomposites was investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM). Thermal and mechanical properties of the nanocomposites such as heat distortion temperature(HDT), tensile strength and low temperature impact strength were measured.
