||In this study, porous carbon beads were prepared by thermal treatment of polymer beads. A PAN/DMSO solution was added into a deionized water bath containing a surfactant using a syringe pump. The prepared porous PAN were stabilized in air and then carbonized under nitrogen atmosphere. The resulting porous carbon beads were characterized in terms of their physico-chemical properties, morphology, carbonaceous and crystalline structures, and electrochemical properties. The prepared carbon beads showed better performance in capacitive deionization than the conventional activated carbon.
