제목 Preparation and characterization of carbon-clay hybrid aerogels based on lignin and sepiolite
초록 Aerogel is a kind of mesoporous foams with exceptional low density and high porosity. Clay aerogel from clay minerals is also prepared and investigated, however, reinforcement was needed due to its fragile nature. Hybrid and composite aerogels using both inorganic and organic phases were studied to improve the properties and processability of aerogels. Lignin is a kind of aromatic heterogeneous complex biopolymer. Lignin-based carbon materials have been studied before focusing on its relatively high carbon content among biomass and economic advantage. Sepiolite is a kind of clay minerals with inherent fibrous and porous structure. In this study, bio-based carbon-clay hybrid aerogels were prepared by carbonization of lignin-sepiolite hybrid aerogels. Morphological aspects, mechanical properties, and other characteristics of the hybrid aerogels were investigated. Prepared carbon-clay hybrid aerogels were estimated to have potentials of adsorbents or energy-storage materials.
