||N-rich porous carbon has a wide range of applications in various fields, such as gas adsorption and super capacitor and electronics. In this study, hierarchically porous carbon beads were prepared from polyacrylonitrile (PAN). For this, a 5 wt% PAN/DMSO solution were dropwise added to deionized water containing 0.002 wt% Pluronic F127 using a syringe pump. The precipitates, porous PAN beads, were filtered, washed several times with deionized water, and then dried in air. The prepared porous PAN beads were stabilized at 270 oC in air. For comparison, the prepared PAN beads were irradiated with electron beams and then stabilized under same conditions. Finally, the stabilized PAN beads were carbonized at various temperature under nitrogen atmosphere. The final porous carbon beads were investigated in terms of their physico-chemical structures and elements, and morphology.
