제목 Hierarchical Alignment of Chitin Fiber as an Electrolyte Uptake Membrane for Li Metal based Oxygen battery
초록 Li metal based next generation secondary batteries are promising in many electric powered transportation systems because of its unfaired high capacity comparing to the present Li ion battery. However, when using a Li metal in battery component without an additional process, a serious safety risk occurred during the battery cycle due to the formation of dendrite on the metal surface. Here, we introduce regenerated fibers of chitin (Chiber), the second most abundant biopolymer after cellulose, and propose its utility as a nonwoven fiber separator for lithium metal batteries that exhibits Li-dendrite mitigating performance in Li/Li symmetry cell. In addition, chitin fiber separators are readily combined with Li-O2 and Na-O2 battery cells with 1 M LiTFSI (NaOTF for Na-O2 battery) in DME electrolyte. As a result, the cycle life is longer than the conventional GF separator which also suggests the Chiber separator may work as viable separator for the alkali metal-based batteries.
