제목 Green synthesis of polyimides using water as a reaction medium
초록 Polyimides are well known as high performance polymers because of their excellent thermal properties, mechanical strength and electronic properties. However the conventional synthesis methods for polyimides have a limitation that the reactions are carried out in toxic or carcinogenic organic solvents. In addition, it is difficult to obtain high-molecular-weight fully aliphatic polyimides because of high basicity of aliphatic diamine. In this study, we developed a new synthesis method using water as a reaction medium. As a representative example, 1,2,4,5-cyclohexanetetracarboxylic dianhydride (HPMDA) and 4,4'-methylenebis(cyclohexylamine) (MCA) were used to prepare HPMDA-MCA, a fully aliphatic polyimide. HPMDA-MCA was characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and UV-visible spectroscopy. HPMDA-MCA has a high molecular weight, a light transmittance of nearly 100% (film thickness = ca 20 ㎛) at 400 nm.
