제목 Synthesis of silica adsorbents by sol-gel method for removal of acetaldehyde at room temperature in a continuous system
초록 Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are hazardous chemicals present in outdoor and indoor air. They can be odorous and cause human health problems at very low concentrations. One of the odorous VOC is acetaldehyde. Acetaldehyde can evaporate easily, and it not only has very stinging smell but also can harm the human body. In this study, silica xerogel was synthesized by sol-gel method to achieve higher surface area. And it was tested in a continuous bed system, and was compared with other commercial adsorbents. Samples were analyzed by BET, XRD, FT-IR and 29Si MAS NMR. Concentration of inlet and outlet VOC gas from adsorption test tube were measured using TVOC monitor. Silica synthesized by sol-gel method has higher surface area and higher amount of functional groups than commercial silica gel, which led to better adsorption performance and selectivity.
