||Silica aerogel is a nanostructured-material with high surface area, high porosity, and ultralow thermal conductivity. However, the silica aerogels generally have poor mechanical stability owing to its nanoporous structure and high porosity. One of the good methods to strengthen aerogels is the compositon of aerogel and fiber matrix. In general, silica aerogel blankets have been synthesized by ambient drying technique using non-chopped fiber as the reinforced material. But this preparation method is vulnerable to poor dispersion of silica aerogel into the blanket. To improve the degree of dispersion of silica aerogel, chopped-fiber was employed to prepare well-dispersed silica aerogel blankets. To evaluate degree of dispersion of aerogel, thermal conductivity and stability of aerogel blanket was investigated by scanning electron microscope images, hot wire method and TGA.
