제목 Ferromagnetic Nano-Particle / Polymer Composite for Magneto-Optical Devices
초록 Magneto-Optical (MO) Faraday effect is useful in optical devices (MO recordings, optical switches, isolators, etc.). CexY3-xFe5O12 (Ce-YIG) has high compatible Faraday effect in the wide range wavelength region and much higher than BixY3-xFe5O12 (Bi-YIG) in the near infrared region. Ce-YIG film is normally prepared with sputtering but have limitations in the thickness and process, then Ce-YIG nano particle / polymer composite will be an alternative method to sputtering in order to solving these limitations. This film must have transparency and also have Magneto-optical effect. Ce-YIG particle was synthesised with coprecipitation, then dispersed in polymer matrix. Due to high thermal stability and transparency, PMDA-ODA Poly Imide was used as matrix that prevents particle agglomeration during annealing procedure and gives the stability to the composite. Prepared film needs an annealing process to have MO effect. But phase transition temperature to garnet structure is too high for Poly Imide matrix to stand heat. Therefore microwave energy was used to annealing procedure. Only particle in transparent polymer matrix can be annealed selectively because of difference of absorbing microwave energy between Ce-YIG particle and polymer matrix. Garnet structure was confirmed with XRD, VSM and particle size is 5~10nm with TEM and Faraday detector system is used to characterizing Faraday rotation.
