제목 Microfluidic droplet photomasks for creation of various hexagonal arrays of microdots
초록 Monodisperse emulsion droplets form crystalline phases when their volume fraction is high enough to make dense packing. Such regular arrays of droplets can be prepared within microfluidic device, which can serve reconfigurable photomask for photolithography. To accomplish this, we design a microfluidic device composed of a flow-focusing geometry for droplet generation and side channels for droplet concentration. Transparent oil droplets are generated in continuous water phase containing the ultraviolet (UV)-absorbing dye, which are then crystallized. Employing the droplet arrays as a photomask, we have fabricated micro-dot arrays. The parabolic transmittance profile from each droplet enables the control of dot size by adjusting UV irradiation time and microfluidic control of droplet size enables the control of inter-dot distance. Using single microfluidic device, therefore, a series of hexagonal microarrays with a wide spectrum of array parameters could be obtained.
