Solid-Liquid Equilibria for Binary-Mixtures Containing Cresols, Ethylenediamine, and Anisole
Solid-liquid equilibrium phase boundaries were determined with a solid-disappearance method for binary systems composed of m-cresol, p-cresol, ethylenediamine, and anisole. Among these mixtures, intermolecular complexes formed in ethylenediamine + m-cresol and ehtylenediamine + p-cresol and a single eutectic point was exhibited on the liquidus line of anisole + m-cresol and anisole + p-cresol, respectively. To correlate the solid-liquid equilibirum data with theoretical models, the heat of fusion and liquid molar volume were also measured for each constituent. The phase-equilibrium calculations showed that the Wilson model could reproduce the liquidus lines for the systems without forming congruently melting compounds, and the ideal-chemical model satisfactorily correlated the equilibrium data for the systems having aggregate formation.
