Effect of target walls on the breakage of composite particles
The DEM simulation of the effect of target walls on the comminution of composite particles is studied. Different designs of target walls were considered to achieve the maximum liberation degree, suitable particle size distributions and new surface generation. Concrete spheres of strength category B35 were chosen to represent the composite particles. Depending on the design of the target walls, cracks were generated and propagated under impact. It was noted that crack initiation and propagation at the considered targets were mostly due to the generated shear and tensile stresses. Particle size distributions showed similar trends under impact at different target walls. Under simulated conditions, different target walls showed different liberation degrees depending on the impact velocities.
