Modeling and Experimental Validation of Both Mass-Transfer and Tray Hydraulics in Batch Distillation
A simulation model for batch distillation in columns with perforated plates has been developed. Its novelty consists in the use of both the non-equilibrium and the equilibrium model making up together a better integrated model. The motivation for the building of the new model has been pointed out by Voigtlander (Voigtlander, 1994) where some shortcomings of the non-equilibrium stage model of Krishnamurthy and Taylor (Krishnamurthy et al., 1985) have been claimed. In this model no detailed accounting for the plate hydraulics is possible. Simulation runs have been made and are compared with experimental results.
