Growth, structural, thermal and optical properties of organic NLO crystal: N-methyllutidone trihydrate
Synthesis and single crystal growth of N-methyllutidone trihydrate [C8H11NO (.) 3H(2)O] (NM) following the slow evaporation technique is reported. Single crystals of dimensions 10 x 2 x 2 mm are grown and characterized by FT-NMR, FT-IR and elemental analysis Studies. The lattice parameters are determined by the single crystal X-ray diffraction technique. The optical transmittance spectrum from 200 to 1200 nm shows that the UV transparency cutoff occurs at 290 nm and its transmission is 90-95% from 400 to 1200 nm. The green light of wavelength 532 nm is obtained by frequency doubling of a 1064 nm Nd: YAG laser and a powder second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of 0.51 times that or urea has been measured. The thermal parameters-thermal diffusivity (alpha), thermal effusivity (e), thermal conductivity (K) and heat capacity (C-p)-of NM are measured by an improved photopyroelectric technique and reported.
