Temperature profiles in the thermal entrance region for laminar flow in an electrically heated slit
An analytical solution is presented for the partial differential equation describing the temperature profile in the entry region of an electrically heated slit. This solution was found by using a decomposition technique developed by Amundson and Ramkrishna which electrically heated slit. This solution was found by using a decomposition technique developed by Amundson:and Rarnkrishna which transforms an inseparable, non-self-adjoint equation into a separable. self-adjoint equation. The solution predicts that, when the autothermal parameter is greater than zero, the temperature will increase indefinitely with axial position when Bi < Bi-c. The solution incorrectly predicts that the slit will exhibit spatial oscillations if the Peclet number falls below a critical value near Pe similar to kappa. This turns out to be an artifact related to the assumption that a steady-state solution exists under these conditions.
