Structural Approach to the Synthesis of Control-Systems
Structural approaches to the synthesis of control systems are important integral parts of process design especially during the early stage, so that one can be aware of the controllability of the process under design; assess the interactions between the potential control loops and derive the possibly feasible regulatory control configurations. To overcome the deficiency of previous structural methods, a modified structural approach for synthesizing control systems is introduced based on the concept of structural controllability and recent developments in structural techniques. The simplicity and effectiveness of this approach are demonstrated using the expanded Williams-Otto plant as a case study.
