Assessment of drop coalescence and breakup for stirred extraction columns
Communication: The main different steps involved in liquid-liquid extraction processes like drop transport, drop breakup, and drop coalescence are considered for two different column types, namely, a rotating disc contactor and a Kuhni column, with the aim to calculate the local holdup and the Sauter diameter for further mass transfer studies. Based on the film drainage models for undeformable and deformable drops with partially mobile interfaces, different simulations have been performed and the results compared with experimental values.
