On the calculation of multicomponent mass transfer with several nontransferring components based on the exact matrix solution of the Maxwell-Stefan equations
This paper presents universal and stable algorithms for the calculation of multicomponent mass transfer with several nontransferring components. In these systems the interface mole fractions of the nontransferring components are usually unknown in advance and must be simultaneously calculated with the molar duxes of the transferring components. The algorithms are developed for the film model basing on the exact matrix solution of the Maxwell-Stefan equations as well as for a simplified explicit solution of the film model in order to yield a first approximation. All algorithms showed stable and rapid convergence in extensive mass transfer calculations of very different systems.
