Convective drying of porous material containing a partially miscible mixture
Drying of single porous bodies by convection was investigated in order to determine if the moisture is only partially miscible. 2-Propanol, water, and 1-butanol and mixtures of these solvents were used as model solvents. Drying experiments were performed at various air temperatures, air velocities, body sizes, initial compositions, and porosity of the sample material. Large bodies do not dry selectively until most of the moisture is removed. Porosity, air velocity and air temperature influences the selectivity if the moisture separates into two liquid phases.
