Preparation and Proton Conductivity of Sulfonated-(PVDF-hfp/SEBS) Composite Membrane
In this study, PVDF-hfp/poly(styrene-ethylene-butylene-styene) (SEBS) as polymer electrolyte composite membranes was prepared with the content of the respective polymer for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). The capacity of ion exchange and degree of sulfonation of the composite membrane increase continuously with increasing reaction time. The proton conductivities of sulfonatied-(PVDF-hfp and SEBS) membrane is the best as the value of 5.0 x 10-2 S/cm when the content ratio of PVDF-hfp/SEBS was 1:9. The water uptake increased up to 54 %. The reason for this is that PVDF-hfp, grafted copolymer, made to maximize the free volume as the dispersed phase within composite membrane. This means the optimum mixing ratio of the water uptake between PVDF-hfp and sulfonated-SEBS.
