Effect of aerobic period on microfiltration performance in a membrane-coupled sequencing batch reactor
E-mail:
To investigate the effect of aerobic reaction time on membrane permeability, a membrane-coupled sequencing batch reactor (MSBR) was operated under various aerobic reaction times ranging from 1 to 6 h. Submerged microfiltration was carried out with a constant flux of 25 LMH (L/m(2)/hr) for 1 h subsequent to the aerobic reaction phase. During submerged microfiltration, MSBR system featuring a longer aerobic reaction time showed slower transmembrane pressure (TMP) rise, but it produced a greater total filtrate volume. To elucidate the origins of these phenomena, potent parameters were investigated, such as DO, COD, specific resistance and compressibility of the cake layer, together with extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) in the MSBR system.
