Surface-Anchoring Solitary Waves in Antiferroelectric Liquid-Crystals
By considering an expression for the energy of a cell containing an antiferroelectric smectic liquid crystal with only nearest-neighbor interactions between layers we conclude that while the transition to and from ferroelectric alignment can propagate as a stable solitary wave in the bulk of the material, under certain conditions a separate surface wave can also exist.
