Photochromic and Spectrokinetic Properties of Vacuum-Deposited Films of Spirobenzopyrans
Novel formylsubstituted spiropyrans of the indoline series have been synthesized. Reversible photochromism was observed in vacuum-deposited thin thin solid films of the spirans obtained by evaporation under a pressure of 2.10(-5) Torr and a boat temperature of 130-180 degrees C. Kinetic characteristics of the photochromic transformations depend mostly on the bulkiness on the substituents in both indoline and 2H-chromene fragments of the spiropyrans. An irreversible photoreaction leading to photodegradation of the photochromic system occurs on prolonged UV-irradiation of thin solid films of the spiropyrans.
