Processing and performance properties of amino silicone-based softener on various textile substrates
According to recent researches, the emulsion stability, characteristics and the particle size distribution have great importance in their ability to impart desired surface properties on treated substrates. Therefore, in this study, aminofunctional polysiloxanes are used for preparation of silicone emulsion softener stabilized by nonionic surfactants. The turbidity of proposed emulsions was investigated as a function of pH and temperature to determine the range of thermal and alkaline stability. Morphologies of silicone-modified surfaces on various types of fabrics were studied by using scanning electron microscope. The emulsion droplet size is determined by dynamic light scattering. The obtained results indicated the emulsion droplets to be in the range of 40-180 nm with great dispersity and homogeneity. The effects of these emulsions on the mechanical properties of the fabrics were also examined, which shows superior crease recovery and bending properties on treated fabrics.
