Acenaphthylene-derived perfluorocyclobutyl aromatic ether polymers
Three new bis (trifluorovinyl ether) monomers enchained with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) cores were synthesized. Crystal structures obtained from single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses of two monomers revealed ring-cleaved dione and ring-retained PAH cores. These monomers subsequently underwent [2+2] thermal cyclodimerization affording novel perfluorocyclobutyl polymers with high molecular weights and narrow polydispersity indices. In addition, these polymers demonstrated high glass transition temperatures (>200 degrees C) and thermal stability (>450 degrees C).
