Synergistic effect in heterogeneous Fenton degradation of tetrabromobisphenol A by MWCNT and beta-CD co-modified Fe3O4
The magnetic Fe3O4@beta-CD/MWCNT nanocomposites were firstly prepared by a hydrothermal method and used as a heterogeneous Fenton-like catalyst to degrade Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA). The comparative test indicated that the final composite catalyst had higher catalytic activity than other semi-finished catalysts. Furthermore, the role of beta-CD, MWCNT and Fe3O4 in the composite catalyst was studied. Based on this, the enhancement effect was confirmed and a reasonable reaction process was proposed. The effects of reaction parameters including pH, dosage of the catalyst, initial H2O2 concentration and temperature on the TBBPA degradation were also evaluated. The Fe3O4@beta-CD/MWCNT possessed an outstanding catalytic performance with about 97% removal rate of TBBPA under the optimum condition. In addition, the excellent stability and anti-interference of Fe3O4@beta-CD/MWCNT were justified. Meanwhile, on the basis of LC-MS analysis and the detection of bromine ions, a possible degradation pathway for TBBPA was proposed.
