Modeling of transient bottom jet impingement boiling
In manufacturing of hot rolled steel products, run-out table cooling plays a critical role to obtain the desired microstructure and mechanical properties. Therefore, it is important to control and simulate cooling on the run-out table. Specifically, the transition boiling regime is critical here as heat extraction increases with decreasing steel temperature. A new mechanistic heat flux model is proposed to map boiling curves in the impingement and parallel flow zones for bottom jet impingement cooling of a stationary steel plate with a planar nozzle. In particular, a transition boiling model originally developed for steady state conditions has been extended to the transient conditions of jet impingement boiling. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd.
