Enhanced Electrochemical Performance of LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 Cathode Material via Li2TiO3 Nanoparticles Coating
A Li2TiO3 modified LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 cathode material is prepared by a novel coating method of Li2TiO3 nanoparticles. Compared with a coated material prepared by synchronous lithiation, this coated material shows an unchanged LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 bulk structure and a dramatically reduced lithium residue amount on the surface. As a result, the electrochemical performance of this coated material is improved markedly, especially for the cycling stability at an elevated temperature (60 degrees C), at which the capacity retention after 200 cycles at a rate of 1 C is 91.32%. The performance enhancement for this coated material can be mainly contributed to the less formation of a solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layer and a lower degree of structural changes during cycling.
