Energy Storage for the Energy Transition: Salt Hydrate Based Low-Temperature Latent Heat Storage
Latent heat storage provides useable thermal energy with high storage density. Salt hydrates are appropriate storage materials for applications up to 100 degrees C. To apply salt hydrates over a long period of time, a latent heat storage with immersed capillary tube heat exchanger has been developed. This concept has been installed as support of the dry recooling of sorption chillers in solar heating and cooling systems and as part of a space cooling system. Novel salt hydrate mixtures for further energy-relevant applications are currently being investigated.
