Gas-liquid two phase flow with high GVF through a horizontal V-Cone throttle device
The flow characteristics of gas-liquid two phase flow with high GVF through a V-Cone throttle device (VCTD) are investigated. Five types of flow patterns are observed flowing through the V-Cone under the present test conditions, and the gas-liquid annular jet is formed in the annulus of the V-Cone throat. Under the effects of the V-Cone body, the flow patterns downstream of V-Cone are changed compared with that of upstream of V-Cone. The pressure recovery length downstream of the V-Cone is determined. We find that the pressure recovery length in the gas-liquid two phase flow is shorter than that of in the single phase flow, which is beneficial to measure the gas-liquid two phase flow with VCTD. The fluctuation of the differential pressure (DP) demonstrates that the back DP of the VCTD is more stable compared with the front DP. Investigations on the frictional resistance show that it is affected by the flow pattern upstream and downstream of the V-Cone. A correlation for predicting the pressure loss of the V-Cone throttle device is developed, which shows that the pressure loss can be used to develop the method for online measuring the gas and liquid flow rate.
