A single layer solid oxide fuel cell composed of La2NiO4 and doped curia-carbonate with H-2 and methanol as fuels
A single layer solid oxide fuel cell composed of La2NiO4 and samarium dope ceria (SDC)(Li0.67Na0.33)(2)CO3 is fabricated and characterized. La2NiO4 shows a K2NiF4 structure in an oxidizing atmosphere, and is decomposed to Ni and La2O3 in a reducing atmosphere at the operating temperature of the cell. The electrical conductivity of the composite material increases with the increase of the content of La2NiO4. At 700 degrees C, the single cell composed of 30 wt.% La2NiO4 and 70 wt.% SDC-(Li0.67Na0.33)(2)CO3 exhibits the highest power output of 340 and 331 mW cm(-2) with H-2 and methanol as fuels, respectively. The stability of the cell with H-2 and methanol as the fuels is investigated. (c) 2016 Hydrogen Energy Publications LLC. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
