Synthesis and Crystal Structures of trans-2-(2-Methoxyphenyl)-1-nitroethylene and trans-1-Hydroxymethyl-2-(2-methoxyphenyl)-1-nitroethylene Dichloromethane Hemisolvate
Two nitroalkene compounds, namely trans-2-(2-methoxyphenyl)-1-nitroethylene (1) and trans-1-hydroxymethyl-2-(2-methoxyphenyl)-1-nitroethylene dichloromethane hemisolvate (2), have been synthesized and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, H-1 (C-13) NMR spectra, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The nitroethylene molecules in (1) and (2) adopt a trans configuration about the CC double bonds. The crystal structures of (1) and (2) are stabilized by the CHO short contacts, and particularly for (2) intermolecular O-HO hydrogen bonds are also observed.
