Microwave phase shifter with ferroelectric liquid crystal having large tilt angle
A microwave phase shifter with a microstrip line structure with a ferroelectric liquid crystal having a large tilt angle is fabricated. The relationship between e tilt angle and dielectric permittivity difference perpendicular to the substrate of the microstrip line in wound and unwound states of the helical structure is calculated. The voltage dependence of phase shift under the application of a triangular wave showed hysteresis. The decay time of phase shift is reduced upon the application of offset voltage, and both response times under application and removal of applied voltage are less than 30 ms when a sufficient voltage is applied.
