Reaction crystallization of struvite from wastewaters of different chemical compositions
Phosphate(V) ions were recovered as MgNH4PO4.6H(2)O (struvite) from synthetic and industrial wastewaters by crystn. at an excess of Mg ions at pH 9 and mean residence time 3600 s. Solid product contained 26-99% by mass of struvite and impurities co-pptd. from the wastewater (mainly amorphous Ca phosphates and some metal hydroxides). Crystal size (18.1-48.5 pm) depended on wastewater type and concn. of impurities.
