Synthesis, structure and magnetic properties of the antiferromagnetic hexamanganese cluster [Mn-6(mu(4)-O)(2)(O2CC6HF4)(10) (HO2CCH3)(4)]center dot(C7H8)
A hexanuclear Mn-II-Mn-III-cluster, [Mn-6(O)(2)(O2CC6HF4)(10)(HO2CCH3)(4)].(C7H8) (1), was synthesized by a typical acetate-substitution reaction of the well-known Mn-12-cluster, [Mn-12(O)(12)(O2CCH3)(16)(H2O)(4)].2CH(3)CO(2)H.4H(2)O in the presence of an excess of 2, 3, 5, 6-tetrafluorobenzoic acid. Each unpaired spill on Mn(II) and Mn(III) ions is promoted as to be antiferromagnetically cancelled to produce an S = 0 ground state.
