Catalytic Approaches to the Recycling of Waste Plastics
For the purpose of efficient utilization of waste plastics, the degradation of waste polyolefin to transportation fuel hydrocarbon on various solid acid catalysts has been studied. Thermal and catalytic degradations were carried out in the range 120-420℃. The yield of liquid products from catalytic degradation was significantly high, in contrast to thermal degradation which gave low liquid yield and multimodal composition distribution. Among silica-alumina, H-mordenite, HY, HZSM-5, which were screened as catalysts, silica-alumina, H-mordenite was found to be the most suitable catalyst for this reaction.
