Superplastic densification of ultrahigh carbon steel powder compacts
The importance of steady-state creep on the warm-temperature, pressure-sintering kinetics of iron powders and superplastic ultrahigh carbon steel powders during the intermediate stage of densification is discussed. Superplastic 1.6%C-steel powders compacted at warm temperatures and low pressures are shown to reach higher densities faster than non-superplastic 1.6%C-steel powders produced by the same method and compacted under equivalent conditions. The experimental results are compared to several models for the densification rate during the intermediate stage of pressure sintering.
