Low-density porous TiNi shape-memory alloy produced by the SHS process
Using pure Ti and Ni powders with equal atom ratio, a porous TiNi shape memory alloy has been prepared by the self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) process. The obtained porous samples are possessed of regular shape, stable dimension, perfect porous interconnecting and homogenous pores etc. The density, maximum pore size, permeability proper-ties, conventional mechanical properties and transformation temperatures of this alloy have been analyzed. The results showed that the SHS process used for producing TiNi alloys with porosity and low density exhibits a lot of advantages. such as full alloying, homogenous composition, the high porosity over 50%, simplification procedure, saving energy etc, which is an ideal producing method.
