Properties of FeMnSiCrNi shape-memory alloys with (0.1 similar to 0.5wt%) Nb additions
With additions of Nb into Fe14Mn6Si9Cr5Ni shape memory alloy, anew type of shape memory alloy-FeMnSiCrNiNb alloy has been developed, which is called a "training free" shape memory alloy. By aging, NbC particles precipitated in the austenite of the Nb bearing alloy and the shape memory effect is improved in comparison with the corresponding NbC free FeMnSiCrNi alloys. The effect of NbC precipitation, at different aging temperatures for different times after high temperature solution treatment at 1200 degreesC for the alloys with Nb additions of 0.1-0.5wt% has been studied, It has been shown that the Fe14Mn6Si9Cr5Ni alloy with 0.5%Nb addition aged at 800degreesC for 6h possesses the best shape memory effect, The influence of NbC precipitation on the shape memory effect is discussed in this paper. The mechanical properties and the corrosion resistance of Nb bearing alloys have also been investigated.
