Predictions of hydrate formation for systems containing hydrogen
The hydrogen hydrate technology attracts more interests for hydrogen storage and purification. In this work, the Patel-Teja equation of state (PT EOS) with the one-fluid mixing rules was applied to the fugacity calculations in vapor and liquid phases and the Chen-Guo hydrate model to the hydrate phase. By treating hydrogen as a hydrate former, the measured data on hydrate formation conditions in a variety of hydrogen concentrations were used to determine the parameters of hydrogen in the hydrate model. Considering tetrahydrofuran (THF) is frequently used as a thermodynamic promoter in the development of hydrate-based technology, which can reduce the hydrate formation pressure, especially when hydrogen exists, the modeling investigation was conducted for systems containing hydrogen in the presence of THF A cubic plus association (CPA) type EOS was used and parameters were determined by correlating the vapor liquid equilibrium data of THF+ water system, where PT EOS was used as physical term. The model proposed in this study was applied to the hydrate formation calculations for mixtures containing hydrogen. A satisfactory agreement between the predicted results and the experimental data from the literature was reached. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
